Supporting 32 channels for simultaneous voice and HSPA+ data, it conforms to 3GPP local area base station (LABS) standards. It enables public access small cells that serve urban hot spots, city centers, rural environments and strand-mounted systems.
The device supports 3GPP Release 9 functionality, and features receive diversity, MIMO, soft handover and Mindspeed’s innovative smartSignaling™ technology. As a result it can support the highest 3GPP data rates (42Mbps HSDPA, 11.2Mbps HSUPA), the industry’s highest number of active users, cell radius greater than 3km and UE speeds of 120km/h. The device supports Iub, Iuh and (soon) Iurh, making it suitable for use in femtocell, picocell and smart DAS architectures.
Mindspeed’s smartSignaling technology allows as many as 400 smartphone users to join the femtocell for applications such as push email. smartSignaling allows intelligent control of the UE’s status, supports flexible allocation of signaling capacity, and uses high-speed shared channels to handle signaling “chatter”. An important additional benefit is extended UE battery life.
For higher-performing small cells, Soft handover (SHO) and Receive Diversity (RxD) are crucially important techniques. The PC3024 supports both of these. They can deliver higher performance, improve capacity and lengthen UE battery life Equally important is support for MIMO and dual-carrier (DC) for the highest 3GPP data rates.
