IMA Link Layer Controller
Overview
Description
The Inverse Multiplexing over ATM (IMA) components are suitable for bonding all types of DSL links as well as traditional T1/E1 links. IMA provides a method to provision bandwidth at rates between traditional link rates. An example is to achieve rates between T1/E1 and T3/E3. The low speed T1/E1 links are grouped together to collectively provide higher intermediate rates. Another example relates to how DSL link bandwidth drops as customer premises equipment is moved farther from the network access box. IMA allows DSL links to be combined to compensate for the bandwidth loss and even to reach higher aggregate rates than a single link. DSL with IMA also promises to be a cost-effective way to buy bandwidth.
