Optical Networking
Mindspeed's High Performance Analog (HPA) fiber-optic portfolio spans the entire spectrum of optical networking transceiver solutions from DC to greater than 11.5Gb/s speeds, in support of Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Ethernet, Fibre Channel digital data transmission standards. We leverage considerable experience in SONET and high-speed T1/E1 technology to deliver the industry’s highest-performance analog design for serial data switching and transmission.
Implementing a reusable building-block approach across multiple next-generation optical-networking applications and markets, our products support the rapid growth in optical transport bandwidth for core and metro networks as well as the roll-out of “last mile” fiber-optic networking services to the home, building and beyond.
For core WDM/OTN routers, Mindspeed offers a broad family of crosspoints and signal conditioners that solve difficult telecom system challenges in SONET and DWDM line cards and system core switch cards. The portfolio includes an extensive array of crosspoint switches that offer a very efficient foundation on which to implement circuit-switched backplanes in high-performance optical transport networks (OTN)/DWDM systems.
For carrier fiber-optic access applications, our family of integrated, feature-rich laser drivers, pre- and post-amplifiers and other physical media devices (PMDs) reduce the cost, size and power consumption of optical network terminals (ONTs) used to deploy FTTx multi-play services that implement GPON and GEPON technology. For instance, Mindspeed’s proprietary Eye-Minder™ dual closed-loop technology provides real-time laser-aging monitoring/compensation to enable low-cost BOSA-on-board (BoB) implementations with the industry’s highest performance, and our ultra-sensitive TIAs eliminate the need for expensive receive optics.
Equalizer and Redrivers: Leveraging our unique Amplif-Eye™ technology, Mindspeed has developed a comprehensive family of equalizers and redrivers, providing signal integrity solutions to build robust, low power, high data rate systems. With our large portfolio, we have a product to meet our customers’ data rate, channel count, and performance requirements when needing to drive high speed digital data across a variety of media. The multi-rate product family is perfectly suited to aid transmission of Ethernet, Fibre Channel, Infiniband, SONET, PCIe data in telecom, datacom, and enterprise applications.
Clock and Data Recovery (CDR): Mindspeed has developed a series of high-performance clock-and-data recovery (CDR) devices to remove the jitter from signals in high data rate systems. The extensive family includes low channel count device, to a high channel count devices with over 100 CDRs in a single device. Our devices are equipped with Mindspeed’s Amplif-Eye™ signal conditioning technology that enables manufacturers to use lower cost board materials and components with increased design margin. Our family of CDRs supports multiple protocols, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SONET, PCIe, SAS, SATA, Infiniband. Many products also support wide ranges of data rates, making them ideal for systems using proprietary data rates.
Crosspoint Switches: With over a decade of experience in crosspoint switch design and delivery, Mindspeed has positioned itself as the preferred and trusted supplier for switching solutions in high data rate systems. Mindspeed’s continued innovation and investment in pushing the boundaries of performance, size, and speed, ensures that we maintain our leading supplier status. A Crosspoint Switch allows any input to the device to the routed to any output of the device. This feature can be used in many ways, such as to broadcast an input to multiple outputs, to loopback signals for test and diagnostics, or to use a large crosspoint to implement many 1:2 and 2:1 muxes for redundancy switching. Mindspeed offers the industry’s largest portfolio of crosspoint switch devices with channel counts ranging from 2x2 all the way up to 288x288 and data rates from 3.2Gpbs to 11.5Gbps and above. Our devices are equipped with Mindspeed’s Amplif-Eye™ signal conditioning technology that enables system designers to use lower cost board materials and components while increasing their system margin. With our extensive portfolio of protocol agnostic crosspoints, we have a solution for switching high data rate signals in a variety of applications including video broadcast routers and switchers, HDMI switchers, and DWDM physical layer routers.
