Optimizing RF-Over-Fiber

MACOM’s Linear Photonics product line provides state-of-the-art RF and microwave photonic links for systems from DC to >60 GHz. MACOM can meet your RF photonic needs from receivers and transmitters to the entire link. Applications include signal transport, EW systems, antenna remoting, radar simulation, interfacility links (IFLs) and distribution of precision time and frequency referenece signals. Systems are designed to meet environmental requirements from laboratories to the harsh environments of naval, avionic and space deployments.

MACOM’s Linear Photonics product team designs, develops and manufactures state-of-the-art RF-over-fiber components, modules and systems. The team has the capability to design component, modular, and system-level products to meet the needs of your specific applications. We support the entire development and manufacturing process from conception, design, qualification and into volume production. MACOM’s Linear Photonics systems have been developed for everything from commercial usage to Hi-Rel space and military usage.

Capabilities

  • High fidelity and transparent RF/microwave photonic links incorporating directly and externally modulated technologies to address a wide range of RF frequencies and performance requirements
  • Module and sub system designs can include Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA), precise fiber delay lines, multi-path phase alignment and CWDM/DWDN functionality providing increased system flexibility and capabilities
  • RF, optical and packaging design services
  • Optical fiber splicing, fiber spooling, fiber alignment and attachment, hybrid chip-and-wire assembly and large product/system assembly 
  • Optimization for both performance and environmental requirements, including RF analog testing up to 80 GHz, optical testing, optical spectrum measurement, temperature shock, temperature cycling, vibration testing,thermal-vacuum testing and radiation hardness testing (Additional testing is performed off-site as required)

Amplified Microwave Photonics Receiver

The APRR530 Amplified Photo Receiver consists of a broadband microwave InGaAs PIN photodiode internally matched to a low noise post amplifier, providing 14 dB gain from 0.5 to 30 GHz. The amplifier is matched directly to the diode output, improving system ripple response and noise figure.

Standard transmitter and receiver modules are available for operation up to 50 GHz. Customized solutions are available for higher frequencies. Options are available for extended temperature use, RF amplification, and optical amplification.

Directly Modulated Fiber Optic Links provide high performance transmission of wideband RF signals up to 20 GHz over optical fiber. Featuring high reliability and small size, the DiLink transmitter and receiver modules are easily integrated into communications systems for a variety of applications including antenna remoting, radio-over-fiber, network infrastructure and multicarrier/subcarrier multiplexed analog transport.
